I'LL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS! LAST LETTER HOME DEC 16, 2014

AHH....  It's crazy!  I'm currently experiencing my last day here in Natchitoches and it's so wierd!  Tonight we will drive to Alexandria and then we will leave there at about 6:30 am and we will drive to Baton Rouge and then on Thursday I will fly home to see y'all!  I can't believe how fast these 18 months have gone by!  I wouldn't trade this experience for ANYTHING!  I am so grateful for all the miracles I have witnessed and blessings I have received!  It's an incredible experience to be a representative of Jesus Christ.  I have grown so much during these 18 months and I have watched so many people I love grow too!  I got to go on exchanges to Alexandria this past weekend and it was incredible!  I got to see Kim and Zoe and some of the less actives I had worked with to help reactivate!  It was an amazing experience to see how happy they are!  Seriously they all had a glow about them and they were truly happy and I know it's because they are living the gospel!  It's hard to live the gospel at times but the happiness that comes from it can't be found anywhere else!  It's a happiness that is clean and pure and comes from a loving Heavenly Father.  It is a happiness that is personalized for each of His children!  I love all of you and I am so grateful for the support you have been for me during these 18 months here in Louisiana!  I love y'all and I will see you in two days!!

December 8, 2014

Hi family!
Sorry about the craziness of last week and quick email!  I will try to give a better update of the past two weeks!  Thanksgiving was great!  We got to have a missionary turkey bowl in the morning and then we got to spend Thanksgiving with our ward mission leader and his family!  Him, his wife, and son are all allergic to gluten so we had a gluten free Thanksgiving dinner.. It was actually really good!  And it was a wonderful Thanksgiving!  We spent most of the week doing service for less actives, recent converts and a couple PIs!  It was a great week!  This last week has been wonderful as well!  Darby had her baptismal interview on Wednesday and it went really well.  She finally talked to her dad and told him she wants to get baptized (this is a REALLY big deal!) and he told her he wants her to wait until after Christmas break so they can talk about it in person.  This means that she will be getting baptized after Christmas break and therefore when I'm not in Natchitoches.  I was bummed but at the same time I'm so excited that she finally talked to her dad and he said he wants to be there when she gets baptized!  That's really exciting!  Our only worry now is how bad he is going to push anti material on her while she is home.  She asked us to start teaching her the main lessons again so she can be prepared for any questions her dad has!  Please  keep her in your prayers!  Crystal is doing good as well.  We still haven't been able to meet with her group of friends again but she did give us their numbers and we've been trying to get in contact with them.  We were able to finish teaching the restoration and we taught the Plan of Salvation.  It still isn't completely clicking with her so I've been focusing a lot of my prayers on asking for guidance on what specifically she needs to hear about the gospel that will make everything click!  Shelby has basically dropped of the planet.  Finals begin this week and she has been stressed with work and finishing up all her assignments for classes.  She's been behind on school work for most of the semester and I think now it's all starting to catch up with her.  She texted us about a week ago though and told us she hasn't forgotten about us and is excited to get together after finals!  So I'm not too worried!
We had the Christmas Devotional broadcasted at our church building last night and we had a gumbo cook off before hand and we had three less active families come!  It was awesome!  Two of them haven't been inside the church building for a long time and it was so good to see them there!  I loved it!  And the gumbo was delicious :)
This past weekend was the big City of Lights Christmas Festival and Natchitoches was completely packed with people!!  It was crazy!!  We got permission to run in the 5k that morning and that was a lot of fun!  Unfortunately there's the whole site and sound thing with your companion so I wasn't able to actually race in it.  I won't give too many details on our pace but let's just say I had old ladies power walking faster than I was running.  It was a definite struggle to prevent myself from not taking off in a normal pace! On Thursday we had our zone training meeting and the sisters that rode with us had their interviews with President Hansen afterwards so we ended up spending almost the entire day in Alexandria.  We had driven down the night before and stayed the night and it was so much fun to see mama and papa Green!  Plus Sister Thornely, who I came out with, was there on exchanges so it was really fun.  The library just told us the computer lab is closing right now so I have to go.  Sorry.  I love y'all!

November 24, 2014 Miracles in Natchitoches

I love this time of year and the spirit of thanksgiving and service that seems to fill the hearts of everyone. You can see the Spirit of Christ radiating in people's eyes and they are always more willing to listen to that special message of their Savior Jesus Christ, that we have to offer. It's also a time of miracles and it has been a wonderful week of witnessing miracles and experiencing Heavenly Father's love. Our first miracle was on Tuesday. We had our investigator Darby come to dinner at a member's house with us. The member is a convert of 3 years and her story is similar to Darby's, so we knew this would be a good experience. We had plans to talk about the Book of Mormon and the spirit that comes into our lives as we diligently study it. As we were sitting around the dinner table, the member started sharing her experience when she learned through the Book of Mormon, that this is Christ's restored church. It was absolutely wonderful how strongly the Spirit entered the house and our homes as she bore her testimony of the power of the Book of Mormon and of Heavenly Father's love. And the spirit grew even stronger as the night went on. We moved into their living room and started teaching. We hadn't got very far into the lesson when Darby started telling us that she followed through with a prompting and finally told her mom that she wants to get baptized. This is a HUGE deal for Darby! She recognized that it was the Spirit prompting her and she followed through with it! Then she looked at us and asked us what day December 17th is. I knew exactly what day December 17th is, because it's my last full day in Louisiana. I also knew exactly why she was asking about that date. It was a wonderful moment to feel the Spirit testifying to me and witness it testifying to Darby, that she was ready to be baptized. I ask her if she would follow the example of her Savior Jesus Christ and be baptized by someone holding the priesthood authority of God, on December 17th, and she said yes. I can't even begin to express how much she means to me and how excited I am for her to baptized! To follow the example of our Savior and enter in through that gate. Just the previous Sunday I had been studying and realized that the field truly is white and there is no reason for us not to be baptizing people here in Natchitoches. Heavenly Father's will is for His children to be baptized and because it's His will, He is going to help us. We just have to do everything in our power to listen to His promptings and align our own will with His. So I did, and as I've done so, I have truly witnessed His hand helping us accomplish His will. And now, Darby is getting baptized!

We've continued to witness miracles throughout the week, and it's incredible! On Wednesday we ran into a former investigator while we were singing hymns in one of the local nursing homes. We had tracted into her my first transfer here and went back and had an incredible lesson with her. We had a return appointment set up and I was so excited, and she called us and said her daughter won't let us come back into their home. It broke my heart because I knew how much Heavenly Father wanted her to hear the message we share. So on Wednesday when I walked in and saw her and she had the biggest smile on her face when she saw me, I was filled with such joy! We talked with her after hymns and she said we can come and visit her anytime we want there!! Her husband passed away about 10 years ago and I know he is working with her and us to help her receive this message!

Miracle number 3 begins with the elders. They were tracting in a trailer park and found a lost member! She is on our rolls but we had no phone number or address for her. Because she's a single sister they gave us her contact info to go back. We welcomed us and was so excited to have us in her home. She has four daughters and their whole family was excited to have us come in and teach them. We talked about the Book of Mormon and the mother asked if we could teach her again because she forgot most of what she learned when she first joined the church. We asked if we could teach her whole family and she was so excited! We even committed her 13 year old daughter to baptism!

The City of Lights officially started this past weekend too!  We got to go on Saturday night and we passed out candycanes to people as they waited on the river front!  Attached to the candy canes we had the story (that you sent me mom!) of how the candy cane was originally made and also an invitation to the first presidency Christmas devotional!  It was a beautiful night and it was gorgeous when they turned on the lights.  I wish I could attach the video for y'all to watch it, but you'll just have to wait a little while :)  They have the big festival the first weekend in December and that's going to he huge!  It's the third largest Christmas festival in the country (Behind Rockefeller Center and Disney World).  So that just shows you how big it is and how many people will be coming through here, someone told us about 15 million people!  It's going to be crazy :)  I feel so blessed to be given the privilege of serving here at this time!

I love you family and thank you for your letters!  I loved reading about Brother Keables and the support he received and the strength he had to do what he knew was right! I love y'all!!

November 17, 2014 It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas!

Hey family!
Well another week has come and gone here in Natchitoches!  It's beginning to look A LOT like Christmas here because the Festival of Lights starts this weekend!  It looks so cool here too!  There are lights all over front street and they had them lit up last night... it was beautiful!!!  And they have the Christmas tree decorated!  I love it!  It's Christmas here and we haven't even had Thanksgiving yet :)  We've decided that after Halloween Natchitches just skips over Thanksgiving and goes straight to Christmas :)
Our week has been filled with a lot of service and traveling to Alexandria for meetings.  We had a less active this last week call us and tell us she was getting evicted and needed help packing so we bagged all our plans on Wednesday and spent almost the entire day helping her pack so she can move into her grandma's.  We had a couple hours between 3 and 5 where we were able to go visit some people and when we came back to her house around 5:30 it was so cool because the street was lined with cars belonging to members of the ward.  Word had gotten around and so many members ditched their plans after work and came to help her move her stuff into her storage unit.  It was a great moment to witness and the first thing that came to my mind was, "this church is awesome!"  It meant so much to us and especially to her to have so many members willing to sacrifice their time to help her.
Things are continueing to go well with our investigators as well.  We didn't get to meet with a lot of them this week.  Darby was swarmed with school work and went home for the weekend so we only got to have one lesson with her.  We've really been focusing on the spirit and helping her to recognize the spirit.  We had a fireside created for Shelby on Friday and we watched Joseph Smith: Prophet of the Restoration.  It was great and it was so cool to see how her understanding of the restoration of the church grew and also the testimonies of the members.  Most of them had never seen the movie before and they were so shocked afterwards because of all the trials Joseph and his family had to go through.  We texted Crystal on Wednesday and found our her dad had passed away that day.  We've been keeping her and her family in our prayers and over the weekend we dropped a note off at her door with a copy of the Plan of Salvation Pamphlet.  She texted us later and thanked us for it and said she'll contact us soon when we can come by.  We got to meet with Hannah again this week, but only for a few minutes.  Her grandma passed away not too long ago and we were able to share a scripture about peace from John 14.  It was a great lesson and the spirit was so strong!  We are going to try hard to meet with her again this week.  She had to miss a lot of school when her grandma passed away so she's been working hard on catching up with all her school work.
Those are really the big things for the week!  I share a funny story with y'all!  We had to drive to Many for district meeting on Tuesday and the elders were following us in their car because they didn't know how to get there.  On our way out of Natchitoches we had to stop and get some gas.  I put the nozzle in the car and started filling it and then clicked it to continue going on its own while I went and checked the oil and Sister Arntz checked the tire pressure.  While I'm behind the hood checking the oil I hear this "SISTER....UH...."  I immediately look around the corner and my companion is standing next to the tank while gas is piling out of it... and she's just standing there :)  I immediately spring around the car, forgetting that gas is slippery, and end up sliding on one foot towards the nozzle!  I quickly click it off and pull it out, and then close our tank.  I look down and there's gas all over the ground around our car.  Apparently the sensor didn't click off the gas like it's suppose to :) The best part we found out later is that Elder Mecham had been standing in the gas station and witnessed the whole thing!  He said he saw it starting to come out and was about to run out and help and that's when I came barreling around the corner of the car, at that point he couldn't help but laugh!  And let's be honest... I would have to!  It was definitely a great moment to remember and I hope y'all are getting some good laughs as you picture these two girls in skirts experiencing all of this :)
I love y'all and I hope you have a fabulous week and keep your eyes open to opportunities to teach the gospel!  Oh... I have a challenge to leave with all of you!  Because I know that all of you have desires to serve, you are now called to the work:  here's what you need to do.  It's called the two question challenge! When you're at the gym, or grocery store or wherever, Ask someone if they like to read.  If they say yes, tell them that you have this really good book you have been reading and it's the account of Jesus Christ visiting God's children in the Americas.  Ask them if they would like a free copy.  When they respond yes, have them write down their name and address and telephone number on a card ( make sure they write it themselves) and tell them you will have it delivered to them.  Then take a copy of the Book of Mormon and write your testimony in the front as a little letter addressed to this person.  Draw an arrow to Moroni's promise, written in the introduction and then include a picture of you and your family.  Then give the copy of the Book of Mormon with the person's card with contact info, to the missionaries and have them deliver it!  Do you think you can do?!!!??  Because I do!!!
I love y'all!!
